People come first at KES. They are our foundation. We have a growing population of over 500 students from Early Childhood through fifth grade. They brighten our lives daily with laughter, smiles, and hugs. Along with our students, we have supportive families and community members. They volunteer, participate in family-fun PTO events, and support our school. At KES, we have over 60 dedicated, caring professionals that work hard to provide the best educational experience possible for all of our children. These three groups of people make KES a great place to be!
We offer a variety of programs incluing K4-5 Spanish. Students learn Spanish starting as young as 4 years old! We utilize our community resources through Junior Achievement and the Washington County Dairy Council. These groups present hands-on, real-life lessons in our classrooms, which coincide with our curriculum.
Students have numerous extracurricular activities to participate in at the elementary level including intramurals, Student Government, and Destination Imagination. This past year, a grade level piloted a running club, too, to promote wellness and positive role models for students.
Programs are provided at KES to serve our families. A Boys & Girls Club operates in our building and offers a before school, after school, and summer program. Breakfast is provided through the morning program starting at 8:00 am. For families with children ages six and under, we have two day cares on site—Little ?Folks and Tuttle Creek. Both offer before and after school program options for ages 6-11.
Being a parent is one of the most rewarding and challenging jobs. We host a “Parenting Matters” class for families to provide useful tips and strategies on parenting. We are proud of the programs we offer, and continually seek feedback to offer new programs to meet the needs of our students and families.
We educate the whole child at KES. We believe in growing a child both academically and in character. We have implemented S.M.A.R.T. (Students Making a Responsible and Respectful Team) as part of PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) to promote positive behaviors, examine data to identify problem behaviors, and re-teach expectations to those in need. By having common expectations, using common vocabulary with students, and being consistent with our SMART program, we have reduced the amount of misbehaviors. We analyze our behavioral data frequently to ensure progress is being made and make changes as needed.
Academic growth was seen at the end of the 2014-2015 school year, our students improved in math and reading. For example our Kindergarten class had over 91% of the students reading at or above grade level by the end of the year.
At KES, our staff has grade-level common planning time. Our staff works collaboratively to examine data, share instructional strategies, create assessments, and plan engaging and creative lessons to meet all students’ needs.
At KES, we truly believe in the TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) philosophy for students, staff, and families. We will continue to partner with parents and strive together to improve student learning at KES! For questions or to schedule a tour please contact Principal Jody Heipp at 262-626-3101 ext 1004.
