Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2015-2016 School year, the inaugural year for the i4Learning Community School (i4LCS). We are very excited to embark on the Kewaskum School District’s first ever public charter school. The i4Learning Community School was in the planning phase for almost two years and on September 1, 2015 the school officially opened its doors!

As a charter school, the i4Learning Community School operates under a governance council that has a charter school contract with the Kewaskum School District. The charter contract is what allows the school to do things differently and break away from the traditional model of education. The governance council works closely with building principal, Joel Dziedzic, and staff to try innovative ideas and approaches to educate students. Through the charter contract, the school is afforded autonomy in exchange for accountability.

The i4Learning Community School is a 4K through 5th grade multi-age learning environment consisting of two separate grade level cohorts, kindergarten through second grade and third through fifth grade. Each cohort has multiple teachers who are able to group the students throughout the day to best meet their learning needs. Four-year-old kindergarten is a stand alone class that meets Monday through Thursday in the mornings. Our students also participate in exploratory classes (Spanish, Physical Education, Music and Art) on a weekly basis.

In addition to the multi-age environment, the students engage in project based learning experiences. These collaborative projects revolve around specific themes and allow for more student voice and choice in the attainment of new learning. Often times the teachers will be learning alongside the students as they investigate an essential question and seek new knowledge according to his/her interest. Using diverse skills, researching, writing, interviewing, collaborating, calculating, and/or public speaking students produce an end project demonstrating their new knowledge. i4LCS will also be incorporating some modules from Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Launch. The PLTW Launch Curriculum is a STEM based program that gives students early experiences in the world of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

With a 2014 Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction charter school planning grant, i4Learning was able to outfit the school with many technology and furniture upgrades. When you visit i4LCS you will see learning spaces that are arranged to make the environment conducive to collaboration. Each cohort classroom has a large group meeting space as well as smaller areas for independent or small group work. You will notice a 1:1 environment where each student has access to an electronic device. In the 3-5 cohort students will most frequently use a Chromebook and in the K-2 classroom students will use iPad Air devices.

We are very excited to see what the 2015-2016 school year has in store for the new i4Learning Community School. Staff and students will explore new ways to engage in the learning process. If you have questions or would like to set up a school visit please contact Principal Joel Dziedzic at 262-626-8427 ext. 5001.
