A message from Mr. Jim Smasal
the New Superintendent for Kewaskum Schools
Hello to all! I am excited, thrilled, and humbled to become part of a caring staff, and I look forward to immersing myself into the many supportive communities who send their children to our school district.
My role as Superintendent revolves around being our children’s most visible and vocal advocate. Simply stated, whatever door students choose to walk through post high school, we must do everything in our power to make sure that door is unlocked and that our students have the skills and resources to proceed into the next phase of their lives.
Leadership is a journey, not a destination. We cannot bring our “same old self” into a bright, new future; therefore, we must be willing to re-invent ourselves continually. As I have stated to countless students over the past 25 years, “It’s not what happens to you, but what you make of it; how you move forward.” In today’s uncertain educational climate, we must avoid cynicism because there are no hopeless situations. Through hard work and dedication, we need to provide hope for our youth and communities.
As a life-long learner, I always have room to grow. Additionally, being an honorable person is the only way I know to be a truly effective leader. I will be straight-forward and honest in my communications and actions. Integrity and character highlight my personal philosophy and leadership style and are evident in my daily practices.
I look forward with great enthusiasm to meeting the Kewaskum School District community and facing the challenges that the future will bring. Stay tuned--it’s going to be exciting!
Mr. Jim Smasal
