The Kewaskum Career Academy (KCA) is an at risk program that designs individualized learning plans, innovative paths to graduation, and a strong support network. The KCA is beginning its 9th year during the 2015-16 school year. We continue to develop new pathways for students at risk of not graduating, so that every student has the opportunity to succeed in high school, college, and their future career. The difference at all of our schools is our commitment to every student, every day.
KCA reaches students by making sure materials are skill level appropriate and offer new approaches to learning. We tailor the educational programming to their needs, skills, and interests. A student’s reasons for struggling in school are as diverse as the students themselves and a single program will not get the job done. KCA students work with various computer based lessons, hands-on projects, group communication, problem solving and extend their learning into the community through jobs and volunteer work.
KCA challenges students to understand the causes of their past educational struggles and to find innovative solutions. By offering appropriate schedules, working with families, counselors, and community members, and by truly getting to know each student, we help them become self directed learners who are interested in their current learning and their future prospects.
KCA prepares students for college and career by ensuring every individual meets all requirements for graduation. Additionally, every student is required to prepare a post-secondary plan including completion of applications for colleges and technical programs and financial aid forms. Students must also create an employability portfolio tailored to various career clusters. KCA provides job shadowing opportunities, guidance in writing resumes and cover letters, and interview practice.
Through individualized learning plans, personal attention, and diverse approaches to education, our students have been able to maintain a graduation rate that exceeds the state average for all students. Our students have received scholarships, been accepted to prestigious universities such as Marquette, attended technical programs, joined the armed forces, and begun their chosen careers. We are proud to be a part of the success of our graduates. Please contact us for more information about our program at 262-626-3106 ext 4901.
