Cultural activity 7: Spanish Speaking Countries
Students read a short paragraph from a book about a Spanish speaking country (one of twenty-two). Students then had to write a summary (2-3 main points) and answer the question attached to the book. Students can make this activity up through either seeing me before or after school to read from a book, or finding a brief article online about a Spanish speaking country and writing a brief summary/opinion piece.

Cultural activity 6: Dia de la Raza
Students learn about Dia de la Raza, which takes place the day after Columbus day, and is celebrated to remember the Native Americans.

Cultural activity 5: Spanish Speaking country
For this activity, students had to read a short paragraph excerpted from a book about a Spanish speaking country (one of twenty-two options). The students had to write a brief summary of what the paragraph was about, and answer the question attached to the page. Students will need to do one of two things to make up this activity: one: come in before or after school to use the hard copy of the book, or two: find an article online about a Spanish speaking country, and write a short summary to turn in. Either would be acceptable.

Cultural activity 4: Current events
Students read a small news article from a Spanish speaking country, write a brief summary (2-3) main points, and answer a few questions about the article. I have attached the articles we used, but students can always look up a new, more current article as well. Students only need to use one of the four articles attached.

Cultural activity 3: Mexican Independence Day
Students learn about Mexican Independence Day and why it is celebrated, as well as how. Students should take brief notes from the power point, and then based on what they learn, write what they would do if they were in Mexico during Mexican Independence Day.

Cultural activity 2: The Difference Between Señor, Señora and Señorita
Students learn the difference between Señor, Señora and Señorita, in English, Mr. Mrs. and Ms. and describe different people viewed in the power point in each category.

Cultural activity 1: La Tomatina
Short cultural activity describing the Tomatina (tomato) festival and when/where it takes place. Students working on this should take notes from the presentation to make it up.
