Week of February 6-10

Reading

Day Learning Target Activity/Assignment
Monday To assess comprehension The students will take a test on the information in the novel Fighting Ground.
Tuesday To assess reading strategies taught in the 2nd trimester  The students will take a general reading test
Wednesday To assess reading strategies. The students will finish the reading test
Thursday To understand six trait strategies The students will  listen to short stories dealing with each trait.  They will discuss each.
Friday To understand proper fluency The students will be introduced to a short novel about the presidents and the Whilte House.  They will be given a short fluency lesson and then they will practice as they begin to read the novel.

Math

 

Day Learning Target Activity/Assignment
Monday To introduce subtraction of mixed numbers with like denominators The students will begin lesson 8.13 Subtracting Mixes Numbers  The students will be assigned math boxes.
Tuesday To review explore using a calculator to solve fraction problems; and to practice adding fractions with unlike denominators The students will begin lesson 8.4 Calculator Fractions; Fraction Action, Fraction FrictionThey will be assigned math boxes.
Wednesday To model finding a fraction of a fraction by folding paper. The students will begin lesson 8.5 Fractions of Fractions --They will be assigned math boxes.
Thursday To use an area model to show fraction multiplication; and to develop a fraction multiplication algorithm. The students will begin lesson 8.6 An Area Model for Fraction Multiplication. They will be assigned math boxes.
Friday To use an area model and the fraction algorithm to find the product of a whole number and a fraction. The students will begin lesson 8.7 Multiplication of Fractions and Whole Numbers Students will be assigned the math boxes.

Language Arts

Day Learning Target Activity/Assignment
Monday    
Tuesday To use spelling strategies in order to pronounce and spell words correctly Each spelling group will have different activities and asignments.
Wednesday    
Thursday To assess knowledge of weekly spelling words The students will be tested on their weekly spelling words.
Friday To sort words based on a specific set of criteria The students will be introduced to new words for the week.

Science

Day Learning Target Activity/Assignment
Monday To understand the effects of climate on the environment Thei students will  read pp. 8-10 and discuss
Tuesday To understand el' Nino The students will play an el' Nino game
Wednesday   LIBRARY
Thursday To review the water cycle and understand the structure of the atmosphere The students will read pp. 16 and 17 and discuss
Friday To apply their understanding of the structure of the atmosphere The students will create a drawing on the atmosphere and label the parts.

Social Studies

Day Learning Target Activity/Assignment
Monday To understand factual information related to different battles during the Revolutionary War  The students will write journal entries as they continue the War simulation
Tuesday To understand factual information related to different battles during the Revolutionary War The students will write journal entries as they continue the War simulation
Wednesday To understand factual information related to different battles during the Revolutionary War The students will write journal entries as they continue the War simulation
Thursday To understand factual information related to different battles during the Revolutionary War The students will write journal entries as they continue the War simulation
