About Early Childhood

What is Early Childhood?

The Kewaskum School District Early Childhood program serves three to six year old children who are identified as having a disability. Any parent of a three to six year old with concerns regarding their child's development, may contact the school for referral and evaluation by district personnel to determine eligibilty for the Early Childhood program.

Qualifying disabilities are the following:

• cognitive disabilities
• hearing impairment
• speech and language impairment
• visual impairment
• emotional/behavioral disability
• orthopedic impairment
• autism
• traumatic brain injury
• learning disability
• other health impairment

If the child qualifies for the Early Childhood program, the parent meets with the Early Childhood teacher and other school staff as necessary to develop an individualized educational plan based on the child's specific needs

Daily Activities

Daily activities may include circle time, play time, snack, art, music, large muscle, and sensory activities.  All activities are designed to meet the individual goals of the children.  Occupational, physical and speech therapy services are provided for those children whose needs require these services.  The teacher also provides a home visit to enhance the communication between home and school.

Early Childhood Goal

The Early Childhood goal is to work with the family to develop and implement an individual plan for the child's special needs, to provide a safe place for children to learn through a developmentally appropriate curriculum with includes socialization skills, hands-on, and sensory activities.
