Here are some practices and policies for our classroom:
Homework
There won’t be homework every night. I’ll often allow time to do work in class so I can see right away what the students are doing as they are doing it.
As you know, homework can be an important and valuable tool for students to practice concepts we studied in class. It also serves as a tool for me to see what we may need to work on. And, of course, it’s a great way for you to keep tabs on what we’re doing in class!
Homework will come home in the folder your child has chosen as their “Home” folder. Please note, this folder will also be how students bring home any handouts, permission slips, school announcements, etc.
Homework is due first thing the next morning, in most cases.
Field Trips
During the course of the year, we’ll be taking walking and bus field trips to highlight the things we’re studying.
At times, there will be costs. If the cost presents a financial hardship for you at that time, just write that on the permission slip or otherwise let me know and it will be taken care of with no hassle. Just so you know.
We also will ask for chaperones to accompany us. Because of the greatresponse I get from parents, not every
chaperone will get to attend every trip due to bus/tour limitations, resources, etc. I’ll do my best to give everyone a chance at some point or other. If there’s one you REALLY
want to attend, note that on the permission slip when you return it. Thanks!
Snack Time
Each day, we will provide a time for snack. If you want your child to have a snack, please have your child bring an individual snack from home. To avoid potential problems, students may not share their snacks unless it is something you sent along specifically to be shared by the entire class (e.g., birthday treats, which, just so you know, are not required).
Except for special occasion parties (birthday, Halloween, etc.), candy is not allowed. Thanks for your cooperation!
Spelling Tests
Spelling tests are made up of common words, or words that help us spell other words (such as words that have lots of rhyming words).
On MONDAY, your child gets some word patterns to practice. They will write them down and bring them home in their take-home folder. Those are the word patternss used on FRIDAY’S TEST.
RAH (Reading At Home)
Each Monday, students will receive a half-sheet of paper on which they can track their Reading At Home. They bring back their signed and filled-in sheets the next Friday.
STUDENTS SHOULD READ at least 15 minutes per night, five nights a week. Students may read on their own, to someone, or with someone. It’s a time to practice reading skills, think about the stories, and just enjoy reading.
KEYS Walk/Run
Funds raised for the annual KEYS Walk/Run are used to provide post-high school scholarships for Kewaskum High School graduates.
Keep an eye out for registration and event dates.
