Basic Choral Techniques
o       Posture- Developing and maintaining good singing posture
o       Breath Control- Learning to use the diaphragm effectively to support tone
o       Warm-ups- Using warm-ups to emphasize vocal basics
 
Choral Ensemble Techniques
o       Blend- Listen for vowel unity
o       Balance- Be sensitive of other vocal sections and not overpower them
o       Diction- Learn to pronounce words distinctly so that they may be understood
o       Intonation- Use good listening skills and breath support to be able to sing in tune
 
Music Theory Concepts
o       Key Signatures
o       Musical Terms and Symbols- Students should know every term/symbol that is used in their respective music
o       Sightsinging- Students should be able to sing a musical phrase without aid of a musical instrument
o       Composition-  Students write a song with the aid of a computer program
o       Melodic Dictation-  Students listen to a short musical phrase and write that phrase on staff paper
 
Musicianship Concepts
o       Phrasing
o       Dynamics
o       Styles
o       Articulation
 
Cultural Connection
o       World Music- including music from Africa, the Carribean, Europe, Canada
o       Various American genre- including pop, jazz, folk
 
Major Projects/ Assignments
o       Concerts- attendance is mandatory

·        Concert In the Park- May 26, 2010
o       Solo/Ensemble Competition- Optional on March 13, 2010
