Interviewing Submarine Veterans
As part of our Advanced Placement US History course, students over the last few years have been given the opportunity to tour the World War Two exhibit at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc. The museum was so impressed with the quality of our students that we were asked to participate with them on a grant through the History Channel detailing the building of submarines in Manitowoc during the war. The students were excited about the propsal, and we ended up interviewing veterans who had served on Manitowoc-made subs and those who had helped build them. The information has since been compiled into both a video and pamphlet that will be used to teach others about the contributions that the area made in the fight to win WWII. The following are some of the students and veterans who were interviewed during the project that was recently completed.
