Graphic Communications & Printing Technology
This course is designed to introduce students to the field of graphic communications and printing. Several areas of the industry will be explored. Students will have hands-on experiences in the following areas: 1) layout and design, 2) typography 3) electronic prepress and page layout, 4) screen printing, 5) relief printing, 6) offset printing, 7) gravure printing, 8) digital photography, and 9) specialty processes. We will also investigate Color and Color printing.
Material for reproduction will come from both the student’s artistic talents and from prepared sources. Students will study composition and design considerations for both text and graphics. Students will learn how to take a design from an idea to a computer layout, plate making, printing and finishing/binding. Each student learns how to operate an offset lithography press and will have opportunities to print multiple screen-printing projects including, T-shirts, sweatshirts, mirrors, etc. Students also design and print a portfolio that contains all of their work in this class.
