v Backpacks/Folder
Please make sure that your child brings his/her folder in the backpack everyday! Please remember to check your child’s backpack everyday. Important notes, (i.e. monthly newsletters that list all the month’s events), may need your attention and also more importantly the children’s work. If you send something that should be given to me, tell your child about it. That way, the children become responsible for giving me all notes from home.
v Everyday Math
Our school district uses a program called Everyday Math. We will be working on number recognition, counting, patterning, and simple math facts. There also are weekly Home Links that need to be completed at home each week.
They will be sent home on Friday’s in their math folder to be returned to school by the following Tuesday.
v Gym Days
Every B and C day for the A.M. and everyA and C day for the P.M.your child will have gym activities. Please no dresses or skirts on these days, and have your child wear tennis shoes so he or she can participate.
v Extra Clothes
Please send one set of spare clothing (shirt, pants, underwear, and socks) that is appropriate for use in case of a bathroom accident in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name on the bag.
v Home Visits
A key part of the four-year old kindergarten experience is the home visit. I will be coming to your home (unless you would prefer to come to school) once each semester to assess with you what your child is learning and answer any questions that you might have. A sign-up sheet will be sent home with your child in their folder in order for you to sign up for an appropriate date and time for this visit. Home visits are typically conducted on Wednesday’s, however if you require a different time due to work schedule conflicts I can accommodate your needs to the best of my ability. Once the home visit schedule is set, you will be given a date and time for the home visit, and I will send home a reminder the week of the visit.
v Library
Every Tuesday your child will go to the school library and check out a book of his or her choice. They can keep the book until the following Tuesday when he or she will return the book to the library and pick a new one. If your child does not return the book on Monday, he or she is not allowed to check out another one until it is returned.
v Monthly Newsletter
Each month your child will bring home a newsletter telling you about books we will be reading, letters of the alphabet we are working on, songs we will be singing, art activities we’re completing, and the monthly nursery rhymes we are learning. The newsletter will also state possible field trips and will contain the permission slips necessary to allow your child to participate in these trips. It will also contain requests we might have for classroom needs as well as remind you of important dates to remember, such as days we do not have class. Please read the newsletter thoroughly every month!!
v Nursery Rhymes
Each month your child will learn two new nursery rhymes. We practice them at school but you will also have to practice them at home with your child. Your child is expected to recite the rhymes in front of the class each month, so preparation at home is very helpful!
v Snack
You will be receiving a snack calendar the first day of school that shows when your child will bring the snack to school. I would appreciate healthy snacks. Your child will bring snack for his or her birthday so you can provide a special treat.
v Transportation
If for any reason your child’s transportation changes please send a note to make the teacher aware of this change. If someone new is picking up your child from school a note is also required.
v Winter
During the winter months the morning students will be outside on the small playground from 8:30-8:50, so please have your child appropriately dressed for the weather. The afternoon students will use the indoor playground when they arrive to school. Parents use your judgment on how to have your child dressed for going home.
