This year I will be teaching math, reading/writing, spelling, science and social studies. I will be alternating science and social studies classes so therefore, we will be concentrating on one unit at a time; in depth. Fifth grade science classes will study the life process of plants, interactions among living things, the earth's surface & structure, our atmosphere and solar system. In social studies students begin learning about early explorers and travel all the way to the civil war.
Reading classes will focus on nonfiction, historical fiction and realistic fiction through a variety of novels.
Everyday Mathematics is distinguished by its focus on real-life problem solving, balance between whole-class and self-directed learning, emphasis on communication, facilitation of school-family cooperation, and appropriate use of technology. Please use the Everyday Mathematics link provided for extra practice throughout the year.
Parent relationships are very important. I welcome your thoughts, concerns, and ideas. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
E-mails are welcome any time of the day. The 5th grade staff is looking forward to an exciting and eventful year.
