Respect
- Respect your classmates and equipment.
- Show respect for you opponent and teammates.
- Handling equipment properly.
- Put equipment away correctly.
- Explain and model proper respect of equipment.
Responsibility
- Responsible for your actions in class (Do what needs to be done):
- Locking up your stuff.
- Dressing for class.
- Being on time for class.
- Washing your clothes.
- Personal hygiene.
- Studying for tests.
Self-Discipline
- Use self-discipline on an everyday basis:
- Following directions.
- Follow rules.
- Staying under control during competition.
- Paying attention.
- Studying for tests.
Caring
- Show kindness to others in class:
- Helping less skilled students.
- Encouraging others in class.
- Working with students with special needs.
Integrity
- Do what is right when no one is looking:
- Following the rules of the game.
- Help others to follow the rules.
- Using integrity when taking tests.
Leadership
- Empower students to be leaders:
- Volunteering.
- Take turns being the leader/captain.
- Show the difference between being a vocal leader and a leader by example.
- Give students a chance to be leaders in a non-competitive environment. (Lead exercises)
- Be a person the teacher can rely on (a substitute teacher can count on you.)
- Be a good role model.
Cooperation
- Promote positive behaviors:
- Promote teamwork.
- Help with equipment.
- Work with people of all abilities.
- Goal is to get everyone to learn the sport, not winning.
Citizenship
- Be an active participant:
- Set up equipment.
- Be a good role model.
- Extend our classroom into the community. (Be a little league umpire, teach swim lesson, or organize a game for kids in your neighborhood.
- Keep your locker room/classroom nice for other students.
Reflection
- Be able to look back and learn from experience:
- Plan an exercise program and re-evaluate on a regular basis.
- Take what you’ve learned and put it toward a healthy lifestyle.
- Recognize benefits of regular physical activity.
