Dear Parents and Children,

Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Mrs. Hanschke. I am very excited to be teaching Kindergarten at KES. This is my second year back in Kindergarten. Before that I taught First Grade for 6 years, Kindergarten for a year and 4-K for two years. The weeks and months together will be filled with lots of new experiences.

You will find a few items very helpful this year in Kindergarten. The first will be what we call the B.E.E. (Bring Everything Everyday) Binder. This will be made the first week of school. The purpose of this binder is to help make information back and forth from home to school easier for you and your child.

The children will be working on 6 Character Traits in our classroom. The traits are: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. You will also hear about "Positive Choices" If your child is struggling with Positive Choices, he or she will bring home a "Think Sheet". This sheet is to help you and your child talk about the day and make a plan for what to do if the situation should come up again.

You will also hear about "Positive Choice" notes, calls and emails that I will make throughout the year. So don't be surprised when you get a "Positive Choice Call or note"!

I hope all families will be able to stop in during Open House on Wednesday, August 31st from 4-6 PM for a short visit and drop off school supplies. You will also receive a folder about things that will be happening in Kindergarten. Please take time to read through the folder.

I am looking forward to a very exciting year filled with each child celebration his/her learning. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 626-8427 Ext. 1122, email me at jhanschk@ksd.k12.wi.us or write me a note. My goal is for Kindergarten to be a terrific place where everyone can enjoy learning! I look at the classroom as a parent-child-teacher team. All of our support and encouragement is very important to your child's success.Together we will make this a year full of new doors opening to the world of learning!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Hanschke
