Materials:

All students are required to have a graphing calculator. I recommend the
TI-83 or TI-84. Pencils, easers, graph paper, ruler, loose-leaf paper, and a binder (one inch or wider) with dividers or a notebook.

Notes:

All students are expected to take class notes.  If a students is absent she/he should make arrangements to copy notes from another student.

Attendance and your grade:

I want you to be in class.  If you are not attending, you are not learning with the rest of the class.  Therefore all absences will be accounted for whether they are excused or not.  If a student is absent from class, she/he is responsible for completing the assignment.  If there are unusual circumstances, you must see me to make the necessary arrangements.

Be in your seat and working when the bell rings. The bell does not start or end class, you do. If class starts late, expect it to end late. If you are tardy to class (not in your seat when the bell rings), the following apply:
1st tardy – warning
2nd tardy – 20 minute after school with me and a call home
3rd tardy– detention
Each tardy thereafter – detention and a call home

Getting Help:

Students: if you find you are lost GET HELP! Ask a friend, ask and adult, ask the tutors, and ask your Teachers.  If you do come to us, expect to be asked if you have read the text, your notes, asked a friend, etc.  This is NOT because we don’t want to help you; this is because we want you to learn about all the resources available to you, most of all, yourself.  We will make appointments outside of class.

Ensuring Learning

In an effort to improve mathematics comprehension among our students, the KHS Math Department, with the support of the Administration, has implemented the following procedures:

1.) All classes will be graded Quarterly with

60% on Assessments-Projects

30% on Study Skills--Practices that help the students learn the math

10% on Portfolio-Reflection of the Quarter

2.) Each student earning less than 80% on an assessment of any form MUST make an appointment with a Math Teacher within 24 hours of receiving their test back for tutoring before (7:05 - 7:25) or after school (3:05 - 3:25) until the Assessment is retaken and an 80% is earned.

3.) Any student NOT following this procedure within 48 hours will be given a detention(s).  (This may include a Saturday Detention)

Bathroom Police:

One student at a time is allowed to use the restroom during work time.  If the class is doing an activity or I am presenting generally students are not allowed to use the restroom.  If it is a class activity or while I am talking and the student needs to go to the restroom they can go they just need to makeup the time at lunch or after school.  Since I will not be timing them they will need to makeup 10 minutes.
