7th Grade/Life Science:
Characteristics of Living Things
o List the characteristics of all living organisms. (Cellular Organization, Contain Compounds, Use Energy, Respond to Surroundings, Grow & Develop, Reproduce)
o Give an example of an organism from each of the six kingdoms (Archaea, Bacteria, Prosista, Fungi, Plant, and Animal)
o Order the levels of classification from most broad to most specific (Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species)
Cells
o Explain the differences between plant and animal cells
o List at least 5 cell organelles/structures
o Describe the following cell processes; Photosynthesis, Respiration, & Mitosis
Bacteria & Viruses
o List differences between bacteria and viruses
o Describe prevention and/or treatment options for bacterial or viral infections
Genetics & Heredity
o Discuss how characteristics/traits (i.e. widow’s peak, colorblindness, genetic disorders) can be passed from generation to generation
o Give examples of dominant and recessive genes.
o Complete a Punnett square, including genotype and phenotype
Plant Kingdom
o Describe and label plant structures and functions
Animal Kingdom
o Identify a species associated with each of the major animal groups (Sponge, Cnidaria, Echinoderm, Roundworm, Flatworm, Mollusk, Segmented worm, Arthropod, Bird, Reptile, Mammal, Amphibian, Etc.)
Human Body
o List human body systems (Skeletal, Muscular, Skin, Digestive, Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Excretory, Nervous, Endocrine, Reproductive, & Lymphatic)
o Locate an organ/structure and describe its function within each system

Students will be given time and support in class. However, some projects, assignments, and test preparation may need to be completed at home.
