What are some ways you can help your child when they are struggling on a word?

Picture Clues:

Look at the picture to help with the unknown words.

Words Part:

Look for a part of an unknown word that is known from knowing another word with the same word part. Example: art--smart 

Stretching the Sounds:

Look at individual letters or sounds in an unknown word and stretch through the word as if you are stretching out a rubberband.

Reading Ahead:

Skip the unknown word and read to the end of the sentence. Then go back and trying a word that would make sense in the sentence.
