What is a Scientist?

Scientists ask questions and answer them by observation and testing. This year your child will become a scientist! The children in 1st grade will be exploring the following topics by reading leveled readers and investigating through hands-on activities. The children will learn to use the inquiry process to answer questions and make decisions. The inquiry process includes observe, ask a question, form an idea, do an experiment, draw a conclusion and see if the idea is supported. If the idea is not supported the children will repeat the inquiry process with the knowledge they have just gained.

Topics that will be covered in 1st grade are:

*Plants, Animals, and People

*Living Things and Where they Live

*Earth, Our Home
