The Art of Theatre:
- Explore the art of stage craft, stage lighting, sound design, costume design and make-up application
- Identify the terms “blocking” and “choreography” and understand stage directions
Types of Theatre:
- Identify the many different themes used in theatre
- Understand the different genres of theatre (i.e.; comedy or tragedy)
- Identify the many different styles of theatres (architecture)
Listening and Speaking:
- Perform monologues, duets, skits and small one-minute plays in front of an audience
- Use a variety of vocal warm up techniques in order to speak clearly and loudly
- Demonstrate proper audience etiquette during a performance
Acting:
- Follow stage directions (i.e.; center stage, stage left, stage right, etc.)
- Demonstrate a variety of acting styles
- Demonstrate a range of physical and emotional characteristics
- Develop character
- Prepare for an audition and design an acting portfolio
- Follow blocking and choreography of director
Theatrical Literature and History:
- Understand the historical effects theatre has had on society and also the effects theatre has had on literature throughout the world
- Understand and design a brief timeline of theatre (Greek Theatre, Roman Theatre, Medieval Theatre, Renaissance/Elizabethan Theatre and Modern Theatre)
- Read and discuss the works of playwright William Shakespeare, as well as other influential pieces of theatrical literature
Social Science and Theatre:
- Understand how theatre has affected many aspects of our social environment (i.e.; economy, politics, racism, etc.) and the way theatre has portrayed or influenced our culture
- Explore careers that are involved in theatre
