Welding Engineering & Fabrication
This class focuses on developing safety skills appropriate to a welding shop environment by introducing SMAW (shielded metal arc welding), GMAW (gas metal arc welding), GTAW (gas tungsten arc welding), and also CNC Plasma cutting. It is worth two credits through Moraine Park Technical College and the Wisconsin Technical College System. Students apply welding & safety skills in a variety of industrial applications on mild steel. Welding operations are performed in a lab setting under the supervision of the instructor.
While using our “state-of-the-art” facility students will gain an understanding of manual welding techniques as well as Computer Numerically Controlled automation by designing and manufacturing a project using the CNC Plasma Cutting System. Course objectives are as follows:
- Apply communication skills in an industrial setting.
- Apply welding shop safety procedures in an industrial setting.
- Interpret information from industrial blueprints using language skills.
- Operate metal fabricating equipment.
- Operate SMAW, GMAW, & CNC Plasma Cutting equipment.
- Perform weld shop mathematics, engineering calculations, and apply them to practical applications.
