Background
The goal of our Department is to research and implement effective ways of integrating technology into the learning envirionment. Our learning environment consists of 800 networked computers in six buildings throughout the District. We use PC-based computers running the Windows operating system. Each computer is Internet accessible. Our network primarily consists of Novell servers with T1 access to the Internet.
Information Technology Literacy Plan
A Technology Committee meets twice a month to discuss the technology needs of the District. A state-approved Technology Literacy Plan is required to receive State and Federal funding. Our Technology plan was approved on June 30, 2007, and is valid through June 30, 2010. To view the District's Technology plan, please click here. (Acrobat Reader is needed to view Techplan.pdf : 3MB)
Acceptable Use Policy
An Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) is a set of guidelines signed by anyone using the school network. It outlines the terms and conditions of internet/network use rules, online behavior, and access privileges. An AUP is very common at many school districts. It is used for the following reasons:
* To help educate students and parents about the kinds of tools they will use on the school network
* To help define boundaries of behavior and specify consequences for leaving those boundaries
* To protect the security and safety of students

Technology Funding
The Universal Service Program (E-Rate) is administered by the Schools and Libraries Division (SLD) of the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC). This not-for-profit corporation was appointed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to ensure that the benefits of telecommunications services reach students and communities across the country. Every year, the District must reapply for funding. The funding subsidizes the expenses of Internet and telecommunication services.
